Meatless Diet

For many years I've tried to stop eating meat for various reasons. One reason was spiritual, I didn't want to eat animals that were scavengers because their purpose on the Earth is important, and I wanted to serve the planet in some way.

Another reason is I see all the animal cruelty videos and I can't believe we can treat animals like that just so we can eat. I have such watching those videos that I try to keep them out of my sight, I guess I'm using out of sight, out of mind. As time goes on, it's becoming harder and harder.

Now more and more people are changing their diets because of weight loss. North America is getting fatter and fatter and people are looking for various ways to lose weight or maintain a healthy weight.

Pescatarian is those who eat fish and avoid all other meat and animal flesh. They believe consuming fish or fish oils is necessary for good health. Studies show that there are many ways to consume a protein-rich diet without eating fish. For many years I thought the definition of Pescatarian was describing a vegetarian.

The benefits of a pescatarian diet are;

  1. You receive a high-quality protein and Omega 3 and some other nutrients.

  2. You have a lower risk of developing anemia like vegan and vegetarian.

  3. Reduces your risk for heart disease, obesity, stroke and a list of others

  4. Supports healthy joints, because of the omega found in seafood.

  5. Is best for the earth,  we have to create so many spaces for cattle.

Vegetarians are people who do not consume meat at all including seafood and fish.  There are different forms of vegetarians.  One form is Pescatarian vegetarian they avoid red meat but they eat chicken and fish, they are also considered semi-vegetarian.

The benefits of a vegetarian diet are;

  1. Consume less saturated fats and cholesterol

  2. Vegetarians live longer than meat-eaters, a study of a targeted group of Seventh-Day Adventists found.

  3. Provide great digestive enzymes, enzymes are important because they help break down food in our system.

  4. Eliminates additives and by-products found in cooked meat.

  5. Better for the environment.  Manufacturing animal meat is costly.  It requires a lot of land use, water, and fuel than plants require.

People that do not eat or use any animal products including milk, eggs and honey are considered vegan and the benefits of being a vegan are;

  1. It can manage your weight

  2. Good for your heart

  3. Improves your stomach digestive system.

  4. High antioxidants

  5. Helps eliminate arthritis

Now all three are interesting and I have flirted with the idea of being one out of the 3 but I have cravings for meat or meat products that I find it hard to stop eating meat. I love cheese, I love curried goat and I eat my cheerios with milk every day.

In the meantime, if you are thinking about changing your diet.  The best advice that I received was to do some research.  Research meal plans that fit the new diet you want to try.  Get your family and friends involved, it's hard to change alone.  Start off slow maybe try doing it for a day, then a week, then a month, then a year.

Happy Veggies!!!
